St Stephen’s recently took part in the National Literacy Trust’s Young Readers programme which involved children from the local schools coming to the centre for a day-long event. The children were taught how to choose books that they would enjoy, and were invited to pick three which they could take home for free.
The aim was to spark a literary-interest in the children and to inspire higher reading levels within the classroom. It was found that children who read in their spare time have academically higher literacy skills. The centre’s team was delighted to host this event, and received some positive feedback about the children’s experience.
We hope our young readers keep up the good work at home and in the classroom!
