St Stephen’s is constantly thinking of new ways to be more environmentally friendly.
Our solar panels have been a success and now 35% of our energy is produced by them. What’s more, over 60% of the centre’s waste is recycled onsite and the rest is sent to an off-site recycling plant – we are officially a zero to landfill centre. We also have a water harvesting system, that has saved 1.3million litres of water so far! And, because we hate waste so much, we also achieved an increase in food and waste recycling by 13.8% in recent years. That’s 15 tonnes of food waste recycled per year through an innovative food-to-water treatment plant on site. We’re also happy to have installed the first electric charging points in the region, introduced at St Stephen’s in 2011. These are free for visitors to use.
We take our carbon footprint seriously, and by taking steps like these we can ensure that our centre is as environmentally friendly as possible.
