At St. Stephen’s, we are proud to take part in the Dementia Friends training programme, established by the Alzheimer Society. The programme is the biggest initiative to change people’s perception of dementia, and the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.
Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help - from telling more people about the programme, to visiting someone you know with dementia – every action counts. We are pleased that St Stephen’s is now dementia friendly as it is important to us that the centre is as welcoming as possible to all members of the public.
The centre is also partaking in the Safe Place scheme, which offers a place of safety 24/7 to anyone who feels uncomfortable, scared or vulnerable. We are pleased to be able to offer a place in the community that guarantees comfort, should someone need it.
In addition, the centre also held a Get into Retail event, working alongside The Source Skills Academy. The five-week programme provided qualifications in retail and customer service, as well as a work placement in St Stephen’s. A diverse range of knowledge and training was imparted at the event, including educating the attendees about employability and interviewing skills. We hope our trainees consider a career in this fast-paced and dynamic industry.
