About The High Street

St Stephen’s opened on 20th September 2007 and brought new vitality to the city of Kingston upon Hull, providing a natural extension to the central shopping area. It is home to 52,000 sq m of prime retail and leisure space and cost £200 million to build, one of the largest in Europe at the time.

St Stephen’s was one of most significant and eagerly anticipated regeneration projects in Hull’s modern history, forming part of a 15 year, £2bn city centre masterplan, which once complete will rejuvenate six geographical areas, including three prime waterfront sites containing a mix of corporate headquarters, restaurants, attractions, boutique hotels, luxury apartments and Hull’s own World Trade Centre.

The modern, spacious architecture, based on an original Norman Foster design, fully integrated Grade II listed transport interchange and new homes for some of the city’s most treasured facilities, including the nationally acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre and Albemarle Music Centre, mean that St Stephen’s has dramatically changed the face of Hull.

The adjoining city centre bustles with major retailers, pubs, clubs, boutiques and cultural attractions. Yorkshire’s friendliest city is proudly showing off its vibrant new image to a growing influx of visitors keen to spend time and money.
