Here are some of the initiatives St Stephen’s support
At St Stephen’s we are keen to support the many different community and charitable initiatives in the local region. We regularly offer promotional space to organisations assisting them to raise awareness and providing fundraising opportunities.
Here are some of the initiatives St Stephen’s continue to support:-
The Prince's Trust 'Get into' Programmes
St Stephen’s is the first shopping centre in the country to work with The Prince’s Trust. Together with a cross-section of retailers the “Get Into” programmes offer disadvantaged young people in our region the opportunity to participate in these new jobs schemes – Get Into Retail and Get Into Customer Services.
The project offers a mixture of practical skills and work experience for long term unemployed 16 to 25-year-olds. The courses have been financially supported by The British Land Company Plc on behalf of St Stephen’s, Yorkshire Forward and Hull City Council. There is national interest in rolling the project out as a best practice model across the country.
Make £5 Blossom
St Stephen's is the main private sector sponsor of this pioneering Hull Ready initiative. This is an educational enterprise programme for primary school children. Now in its 2nd year, this successful project uses capital, invested by St Stephen's, to give each class a £150 investment which in turn allows each child to receive £5 to start a business. Mentors from our retailers and Management Team assist the children in developing key skills known as the Big 13 which are used in business including planning, organisation and team building.
Global Entrepreneurship Week
St Stephen's was proud to sponsor Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 in Hull.
During a week-long series of activities it was the objective of the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership to create a desire within each and every one of Hull’s young people to look at the world around them afresh, to develop their sense of the ‘what’s possible’ and to begin to equip them with the creative tools to help them take advantage of the many opportunities there will be for each of them.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is a worldwide celebration of entrepreneurial people unleashing their enterprising talents, turning their ideas into reality and sowing the seeds of future dreams and aspirations.
Established in 2004 in the UK as Enterprise Week, the event has grown larger each year.
There were 33 events taking place in Hull in 2009, 23 of which were linked to the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership.
The Gerard School of Football
The British Land Company Plc on behalf of St Stephen’s has provided £5,000 to sponsor the academy to assist in helping the academy grow as well as offering more Football School places for local kids. Similarly, some of the money will be used to set-up a ‘scholarship fund’ which will make donations to suitable families and individuals to help them take part in the academy coaching courses.
The Gerard School of Football (GSF) is one of the first private enterprises of its kind in Hull. Set up by full time student Gerard Jones; the School of Football delivers specialist football and athletic performance training to boys and girls of all abilities. The staff includes professionals in sports nutrition, rehabilitation and psychology and the wide range of coaching services is bound to make sure that the football school will become an important part of the community.
Hull & East Yorkshire's Sporting Heroes and Champions Awards
St Stephen's Shopping Centre is proud to support the Hull & East Yorkshire’s Sporting Heroes and Champions Awards 2010 by sponsoring the Sports School of the Year category. Sport brings communities together by introducing new local sporting heroes and by giving others the motivation to achieve their goals and St Stephen’s is delighted to support that vital part of our community, encouraging our young people to take part in physical activity, learning the value of teamwork whilst striving to improve their overall health and fitness.
