We regularly offer promotional space to community and charity organisations helping them to raise awareness and provide a fundraising opportunity. The Prince's Trust
St Stephen’s and their Landlord, British Land have supported this very successful scheme now for six years providing partnership funding each year plus logistical and team assistance for the“Get into Retail” scheme. www.princes-trust.org.uk
Global Entrepreneurship Week
St Stephen’s and British Land are major supporters of Global Entrepreneurship Week and have sponsored the event over the last 3 years. This event takes places each November and helps young people to gain entrepreneurial knowledge and skills for the future. http://www.gew.org.uk
Make £5 Blossom
Hull Ready, a leading enterprise education programme runs this initiative with Hull primary schools. The aim is to give every child in Hull the entrepreneurial skills they will need to build their future in tomorrow’s economy. St Stephen’s is one of many businesses who donates £150 – enough for a class of students to make their business ideas reality. Working with the children to advise and guide them with their ideas, is a mentor, Ruth Truelove, our Finance & Admin Manager. www.hullready.so.uk
Business in the Community
St Stephen’s are members of Business in the Community and get involved in many local projects these have included:
• Ruth Truelove and Tony van der Vliet from the team took part in the Give and Gain Day 2011 spending the day at Hessle Road Network (a youth and social care organisation) creating an allotment and garden area/ learning zone for the young people and local residents.
• Hull & Humber KC Cares Children’s Christmas Party. Ruth Truelove volunteers at the parties, helping with the afternoon’s activities including face painting and handing out a shoe box to each child.
• Eco Kids –Helping children at St George’s primary school in Hull to learn about environmental issues.
• Right to Read – this involves Ruth Truelove and Debbie Lee from the centre team giving-up around half a day a week to work directly with the pupils and teachers at Stepney Primary School in Hull to assist the children with their reading skills. Hull Children's University
St Stephen's are official sponsors of the Hull Children's University.
The Children's University is an innovative and dynamic project that raises children's self-esteem, achievements and learning aspirations through the delivery of literacy focused programmes.
British Land and St Stephen’s are very proud to support this charity with sponsorship totalling £3K per year for the next 3 years. With the shopping centre being a ‘learning destination’ and Ruth Truelove, our Finance & Administration Manager undertaking a volunteering role for the charity as a ‘learning mentor’we see this charitygoing from strength to strenght as together we help the young people of this community. http://www.hullchildrensuniversity.com/
Hull FC "Engage" Project In 2007 the local Rugby Club set up an award-winning Hull FC Community Foundation to deliver high quality community sport to help improve the health and education attainment across Hull, the East Riding and Northern Lincolnshire to inspire people of all ages to improve their lives through Sport. The "Engage" Project is new for 2012 and British Land and St Stephen's are proud to support the programme with sponsorship of £4K this year to help Hull FC focus on how sport and in-particular Rugby can be used as a mechanism to inspire and motivate young people in development programmes that promote employment, education and training. http://www.hullfc.com/Page.aspx?p=1004
The Hull branch is currently celebrating its 50th year supporting the people of Hull and surrounding areas. To help celebrate this huge achievement, they will be running a series of events throughout the year to help raise awareness, raise funds and promote the branch and what we do. Holding a raising awareness and fundraising stall in St Stephens during Samaritans Week from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 29th July 2012. Please feel free to come along to have a chat or to show your support. The Daisy Appeal
The centre has held regular ‘Daisy Day’s’ in the mall to raise awareness and funds for this local charity who are fully committed to the continued development of medical research equipment in our region. We have also participated in the last two years, with two teams of 10, in the Jane Tomlinson Hull 10k run; raising over £5,500 and winning the prize for best corporate fund raiser in 2010. http://www.daisyappeal.org/
Therapeutic gardening for adults with learning disabilities. Apply to grow with CASE, the project is run by an experienced gardening supervisor and is based at local allotments encouraging adults with learning disabilities to try new things, meet new people and experience gardening skills. Royal British Legion
St Stephen’s support the veterans from the Royal British Legion each November offering them space in the Centre to sell their poppies in aid of the national Poppy Appeal. Customers and staff helped to raise in excess of £11,000 for the charity in 2012.
